A common remark we hear from our guests is that they wish they had stayed longer. So we’ve compiled this handy itinerary of things to do around The Hohnstead, Missoula and nearby.

 

DAY 1: Get to know The Hohnstead Day

After 13 years on this property, we’ve fallen in love with this forest. We hope you do too through Hohnstead-focused activities below:

  • Scavenger Hunt (Free to all guests) – do archery, split some wood, pan for gold, use the sling shot and other exciting activities to keep you occupied while covering around 3 miles of our 100-acre forest wilderness. Don’t worry maps and accessories are provided!
  • Complete the Path to Reconnect to Your Senses (also free for all guests and on The Hohnstead property)
  • Hike to The Point, a place that will make you feel like you’re in your private National Park (part of the Scavenger Hunt loop)
  • Hike the Newest Sightseeing Loop (new in 2023)
  • Golden Hour Photography Session at your cabin or around the property with your host Alla  (additional fee applies)
  • Hot Tub and Stargazing 🔥🤩

NEAR THE HOHNSTEAD (within 5 mi on dirt roads)

  •  Infinity Float (5 miles away via car on a dirt road, may be also enjoyed by random campers)
  • 3.2 mi Scenic Outlook (view the mountains as well as the valley down below with Gold Creek rushing through, maybe also enjoyed by random campers)
NEAR THE HOHNSTEAD (gotta get on the highway for 2-3 miles)
  • Float the Blackfoot River (ideal between late July and early August)

 

DAY 2: History + Nature, Hiking Day

Garnet Ghost Town

Garnet Back Country Byway is a scenic drive (12 miles), including Garnet Ghost Town

Holland Lake and Holland Falls (2 miles round-trip hike)

 

 

DAY 3: Museum, Horses, Sightseeing Day

Miracle of America Museum

Cheff Ranch Horseback Riding (tell them The Hohnstead sent ya)

Garden of 1,000 Buddhas

 

 

DAY 4: Visit National Park Day

Glacier National Park

 

 

DAY 5: Visit Missoula Museums Day

Smokejumper Visitor Center

Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Museum

The Historical Museum at Fort Missoula

Missoula Museum of Art and Culture

 

DAY 6: Explore Downtown Missoula Day

Hike the “M”

Walk around downtown Missoula:

Caras Park

Surfing in Missoula at Brennan’s Wave

Missoula Carousel

Big Dipper Ice Cream

Missoula Art Museum

Drinks at the Dram Shop Downtown

Self-guided walking tours (Public Art, Historic Tour). Guided Unseen Missoula Tour

Concert at the Wilma Theater

 

 

DAY 7: On The Water Day

Floating the Blackfoot River (you’ll need floating tubes/kayak/SUP – all available from the Hohnstead)

 

 

DAY 8: Hike, Kayaking, Concert Day

Morrell Falls Hike (5.5 miles round-trip)

Kayak/SUP Rainy Lake or Upsata Lake ( rentals available at the Hohnstead)

Swim at Harper’s Lake or Blanchard Lake or The Blackfoot River (ask us for the closest access)

Concert at the Kettlehouse Amphitheater

 

 

DAY 9: Explore Nearby Small Towns Day

Visit our favorite small towns within 1 hour 30 minutes drive from the Hohnstead

Philipsburg

Anaconda

Butte

 

DAY 10: Hiking/Drinking Day

Rattlesnake National Recreation Area

Ask us about the newest Scenic Loop near the Hohnstead (thanks loggers)
