Ever since I was little, I dreamed of having a horse. But growing up in a one-bedroom apartment, that horse would have had its head sticking out the balcony and woken up the neighbors as it walked down five flights of stairs on its daily walks. Not impossible, but not ideal 😛
30 years later, my passion for horses remains, but I’m more practical with my dreams and limitations. While owning a horse may be a spendy adventure, riding one every once in a while is a lot more affordable. Case and point – Cheff Guest Ranch!
Located just 1 hr 15 minutes from Missoula, Montana, this gorgeous piece of property is what I’d call ‘Quintessential Montana’ – located among the Mission Mountain Range, with log cabins, rivers, ponds, and wildlife galore! They also offer fishing, hunting, exploring trips for those with more time and greenbacks on their hands. It looks like no matter how much time you spend at Cheff’s, you’re guaranteed an incredibly memorable adventure!
For my second visit to Cheff Guest Ranch, I brought along two wonderful women who I’m lucky to call – my moms! While Mama Donna has had LOTS of experience riding, Mama Svetlana is more of a newbie and I’m somewhere in between. Luckily, the ranch utilizes Tennessee Walkers, which are gentle and well-trained horses and provide for a comfortable and safe riding experience for any level rider.
Jack – our young but very experienced guide was friendly and knowledgeable. You may see him competing in rodeos around the state.
We saddled up nicely and got going on our 2-hour adventure, check it out below:
Just when you’re getting a little used to the comfort of riding on top of a peaceful and gentle horse, there comes a time to cross a rushing river…. twice!
And of course, no trip would be complete without a stop for a group portrait, say: “CHEFF RANCH!”
Overall, we had an EXCELLENT time together making memories in the Mission Mountains while on horseback. It’s an affordable and exciting adventure that any Montanan or visitor should enjoy. So what are you waiting for, make a reservation and don’t forget your jeans and toe covered shoes (for comfort and safety) and a cowboy hat to rival Jack’s 😛
